a very easy but very delicious curry - Lamb Malabar

This recipe is very easy to make but the results are fab!!

Lamb Malabar

3 tbsp oil or ghee
2 onions, finely chopped
1 tsp turmeric
1 tbsp ground coriander
1 tsp ground cumin
2 tsp chilli powder
1/2 tsp ground cloves
12 curry leaves
750g / 1.5lb boned leg of lamb, cubed
1 tbsp coarsely grated coconut
300ml / 1/2 pint water
1 tsp salt

Heat the oil or ghee in a saucepan. Add the onions and fry until golden. Stir in the turmeric, coriander, cumin, chilli powder, cloves and curry leaves and fry for 1-2 minutes. Add the lamb and coconut and fry, stirring, until well browned. Pour in the water and add the salt. Cover and simmer for 45 minutes or until the lamb is tender. Transfer to a warmed serving dish and serve immediately.

  1. Love a good lamb curry, I usually toast the spices whole in a dry frying pan, and blitz them before adding, gives you a whole extra taste dimension.
    Nice recipe though.

  2. After having chicken dishes for many times in a row, I always look forward to cooking a good lamb dish. Now with your recipe, given above, I will try this tasty lamb curry shortly. Thanks for the recipe.
